Cancer prevention centre inaugurated in Tirunelveli

Collector M. Karunakaran inaugurated Udhavum Ullangal’s Cancer Prevention Centre on North High Ground Road in Palayamkottai on Sunday.

The centre, comprising a chemotherapy unit, operation theatre and tobacco cessation clinic, is located in the first floor of Lakshmi Commercial Bazaar on the North High Ground Road.

Dean of Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital Sithy Athiya Munavara, Deputy Director of Public Health Ram Ganesh, surgical oncologist Aruna Chandrasekaran, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer T. Manohar and others participated.

Udhavum Ullangal, which has conducted cancer awareness programme covering over 30,000 persons, has screened over 10,000 persons and identified 45 cancer patients. The identified patients are undergoing treatment under its guidance.
