The State government on Monday moved the Madras High Court seeking cancellation of bail granted to PMK leader S. Ramadoss in a case related to a demonstration at the Villupuram railway junction on April 30 as it was held in defiance of police orders.
When the matter came up before the vacation court, Justice M. Sathyanarayanan ordered notice returnable by June 5.
The government also filed a petition praying that the order of bail for G.K. Mani and 361 others in the same case be set aside.

The Judge posted the petition for May 8.
In the affidavit seeking cancellation of bail, N.Ramanathan, Inspector, Villupuram Town police station, said the party organised “Chitrai Thiruvizha” (Chitrai Festival) at Mamallapuram on April 25. While the party volunteers were proceeding to the function venue, there was a clash between them and the general public in which there was damage to government property.
The police official said the affected persons sought action against the PMK cadre. After the function, the police wanted to arrest those involved in the alleged crime. Following this, Dr. Ramadoss and nearly 360 persons staged a demonstration against police action. The Inspector alleged that Dr.Ramadoss provoked the party cadre which resulted in his arrest.

He also alleged that the PMK leader was involved in a “serious offence not only against individual persons, but also against the State. Due to his activities, there was great damage to government property.”
