The Tamil Maanila Imamgal Peravai has urged the Muslim community to forge unity on political issues forgetting the petty differences for the overall development of the whole community.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the day-long Meelad conference held in the city on Wednesday.
Another resolution condemned the communal forces which were indulging in the barbaric act of killing innocent people in the name of religion. These forces were bent on dividing the countrymen by fanning communal passions. Such activities of communal organisations deserved severest condemnation, the resolution said.

It urged the countrymen to maintain unity and communal harmony. The Peravai explained the ill-effects of dowry system prevailing in the society, and called upon the youths and parents to put an end to this menace.
The Central Government should allow the Muslims to follow the Islamic Sharia Law on the marriageable age of girls.
The conference commenced with free marriages of poor Muslim youths and A. K. Mohammad Shibli Bakavi, president, Chennai district Imamgal Peravai, presided.

O. K. Salahuddin Bakavi of Omalur block of the Peravai, inaugurated the conference. G. Khaleel Ahmad, Government Town Khazi, E. A. Abdul Jabbar Saqafi, principal, Kerala Madrasa, and M. G. Shahabuddin Mahlari, presided over the sessions that followed.
K. M. Mohammad Ali Imdadi Hazrath, Principal, Manbaul Uloom Arabic College, Coimbatore, Dr. A. Zakir Hussain Bakavi, Head of the Department of Arabic, Madras University, and Alur Shanavaz, writer, were honoured with special awards.
