The Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Association of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri on Saturday blacked out transmission demanding increase in monthly tariff .
The cable operations have fallen from bad to worse, said Gopinath, district president of the Association. “When the Government took over operations, it claimed that it would break the monopoly. That was the reason we gave our full support.”
According to the cable operators, the basic tariff of Rs.70 stipulated by the Government is nowhere close to supporting the infrastructure or labour to maintain the operations. “The cost of optic fibres, maintenance of labour and infrastructure has gone up and we are unable to meet the basic costs.”

According to the operators, there has been no difference since the State took over the operations.
The operators in Tamil Nadu had not been able to digitise because of lack of initiative due to the Government control, Mr. Gopinath said. Digitisation would help us provide better and advanced services than the DTH option, the operators said.
