Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, its General Manager K. Saju George said that wi-fi connectivity would be made available at the airport, railway station and major malls. Air and rail passengers could enjoy 30 minutes of free wi-fi connectivity. They would be charged Rs. 30 for every additional hour.

On mobile network, he said its coverage had been optimised for better quality. Due to good coverage and service, the number of mobile portability from other operators to the BSNL was increasing .

Further, a broadband helpdesk number 12678 had been introduced in the district for online help and customers could call this number to get their problems solved. Currently, 2G towers were installed at 210 locations and 3G towers at 39 locations, he said.

Mr. Saju said that the free roaming introduced across India by the BSNL since June 15would enable BSNL’s post-paid and pre-paid mobile customers to receive free incoming calls.

For BSNL landline telephone customers, an unlimited free calling scheme had been announced to call any landline or mobile phone across service providers in India from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The new landline scheme, the GM said, would help to bring customers back to the BSNL. Last year, around 9,000 landline connections were surrendered in the district.

Deputy General Manager T.R. Philomin Shanthi, Deputy General Manager (CFA) M. Lakshmanaperumal and other officials were present.
