A 15-year-old boy leaped out of a speeding car to escape from the clutches of his abductors at Agarakeeragudi along Mayiladuthurai-Tiruvarur road, police said.

Sivabharathi, a class X student of a private school in Kuthalam, got off from school van outside the school’s gate around 9 a.m., when he was intercepted by two men. The duo told him that his grandfather had taken ill.

The boy was put in the rear seat of a car. When the car crossed the town limits, the men sensed that the boy was getting suspicious. One of them came to the rear seat to tie up his hands and blindfold him. But, Sivabharathi put up stiff resistance and jumped out of the car. He suffered bruises and was rescued by the public. According to police sources, two persons tried to chase the car, which had no number plate, but in vain.

The boy’s father, Sivakumar, is a hardware merchant in Kuthalam. Police are investigating whether the kidnap bid was owing to business rivalry.
