Tension prevailed along the Tamil Nadu — Karnataka border for the last two days with the activists of Kannada organisations staging demonstrations against the decision of the Cauvery River Authority to let 9000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery to Tamil Nadu for 24 days from September 20.
Over hundred activists including 20 women of Kannada Rakshana Vedhike (KRV) staged a protest march within Karnataka border on Friday and raised slogans against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A group of activists burnt the effigies of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
The agitation was led by Manjunath, State president of the KRV. They were marching towards Tamil Nadu border and were stopped by the Karnataka rural police. Traffic between Hosur and Bangalore was disrupted for an hour. The district police were on high alert along the border to prevent untoward incidents. The border police check post was also strengthened.
