Bonus, ex-gratia for public sector undertaking staff

The government has permitted its public sector undertakings to pay bonus and ex-gratia together of not less than 10 per cent and not more than 20 per cent for 2010-2011.

An order issued by the State Finance Department on Thursday stated that all workers and employees of the PSUs in the C and D groups, irrespective of their eligibility, would be paid a minimum bonus of 8.33 per cent and ex-gratia of 1.67 per cent.

This would be subject to the salary ceiling limit of Rs. 3,500 for the purpose of determination of bonus for 2010-2011 and in relaxation of the eligibility salary ceiling of Rs. 10,000 as per the Payment of Bonus Act.

If the rate is 10 per cent, each employee would get Rs. 4,200. If the rate is 20 per cent, it would be Rs. 8,400.

In respect of workers and employees of the State Transport Undertakings, TNEB Limited/Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation/Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation, Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation, Civil Supplies Corporation, Poompuhar Shipping Corporation and plantation workers of Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation, Arasu Rubber Corporation and Forest Plantation Corporation, the respective administrative departments would issue orders.
