Boat services suspended briefly

June 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Nagercoil:

The Triveni Sangamam in Kanyakumari, the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea, was rough on Wednesday morning with waves rising from 10 to 15 feet.

As a result, boat services operated from the shore to Vivekananda Rock and Tiruvalluvar statue by Poompuhar Shipping Corporation were suspended for a brief period in the morning. The services were restored later, official sources said.

The high waves were the result of heavy wind with rain, but the sea condition turned normal gradually, the sources said.

Only a minimum number of fishermen had ventured into the sea in catamarans and boats from Kanyakumari.

Though the summer vacation ended, tourists from northern States continued to throng Kanyakumari in large numbers, the sources added.
