The State government, which has developed a draft framework for setting up a Lokayukta in the State, will introduce a Bill after undertaking a comparative study of the body as it exists in other States and after reviewing the amendments proposed to the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, Minister for Personnel and Administrative Reforms D. Jayakumar informed the Assembly on Monday.
During a debate on the State budget for 2018-19 in the House, DMK MLA B. Ranganathan (Villivakkam) questioned the delay in setting up the Lokayutka for the State.
Responding to Mr. Ranganathan, Mr. Jayakumar said that the State government had constituted a seven-member committee under the Chief Secretary, which developed a draft framework for the institution, following the enactment of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013.

The draft framework was reviewed at a meeting chaired by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on December 19, 2014. Since the Centre decided to make amendments to the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, a meeting chaired by then Chief Minister had on February 14, 2016 decided to wait for the amendments.
