Bearing the brunt of unplanned work

Laying and re-laying of roads has been on a brisk pace for a few months in Puducherry. In the main thoroughfares, the work is done at the dead of night without traffic disruptions. The small roads and by lanes inside housing colonies take the brunt of this unplanned work.

Materials used for road work get dumped months before the actual laying job causing difficulties to vehicles and pedestrians. Accidents are frequent too.

We, the residents of Avvai Nagar, 2nd Main Road Extension, Lawspet, have also been suffering. A mud road which was once strong is now a mess of mud and slush. Sand was dumped weeks before and has been left unattended. The recent rain has done its bit and now using the road has become difficult.

The authorities seem unconcerned about the mess created by their unplanned work.

This is with reference to the weekly express trains passing through Chidambaram, Cuddalore and Villupuram to major destinations. Though the trains have been introduced, the public seem to be unaware about the services. So they continue to use the regular trains and available bus services. It would be good if more awareness is created about the trains, and publicity material is put up near the ticket counters and railway stations. More people will use the weekly trains, generating more revenue for the railways.

to college

More than 3000 students are pursuing higher education in the Arignar Anna Government Arts College, Kilperumbakkam, Villupuram. There are one or two TNSTC buses operating from Villupuram New Bus Stand to Kilperumbakkam. Due to inadequate bus facility, students of the college walk or use a two-wheeler from the Madha Kovil bus stop to the college which is a distance of one and half kilometres. This bus stop is located on the Villupuram-Puducherry Highway.

The road however is not maintained properly, because of which pedestrians, cyclists and motorists suffer. I request the Villupuram municipal authorities to mend this road at the earliest.
