All banks have been advised to report to District Collectors any transaction exceeding Rs. one lakh, be it to self-help groups (SHG) or individuals or any other person, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said on Wednesday.
Answering a question on monitoring cash transactions concerning SHGs, Mr. Praveen Kumar replied that at the same time his department had planned to make use of the services of the SHGs for creating greater voter awareness.
There were 32 expenditure monitoring teams in place, he added.

On the number of cases registered for defacement of properties, he said that as of now, the authorities had filed 8,345 cases relating to public properties and 4,602 cases pertaining to private properties.
Referring to the special enrolment drive on Sunday, Mr. Praveen Kumar said that about 9.95 lakh applications had been received for inclusion of names and the figure was “quite huge.” Names of eligible applicants would be published a few days after April 5, the last date of filing nominations.
As regards the Pattali Makkal Katchi’s complaint against officials for having vandalised 10 reverse osmosis plants, the CEO said reports had been sought from Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai District Collectors.

‘Routine work’ To another question, he clarified that Mayors of municipal corporations could attend to their “routine executive work” at their offices but they should not receive complaints from people. However, aggrieved persons could submit complaints to officials. A circular in this regard would be sent to all local bodies.
