Banks asked to install burglar alarm

All the bank branches in the city have been asked to install burglar alarms, closed circuit television cameras (cctvs) and employ round-the-clock security personnel to prevent burglaries.

At a meeting conducted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) S. Prabakaran with representatives from all banks, he asked banks to construct strong room as per Reserve Bank of India norms and also deploy security personnel in the banks and at the ATM centres. Also, they were asked not to locate the branches in isolated places and ensure foolproof security in place always.

Stating that the bank heist in Krishnagiri district would not have occurred, if security personnel had been in place, Mr. Prabakaran said that security measures should always be discussed during training sessions conducted for bank employees.

“Huge money is spent for banking operations. Spending on foolproof security should be given top priority”, he added.

The Deputy Commissioner wanted a centralised monitoring mechanism in place for each banks with its branches so that round-the-clock surveillance is possible. He also asked bank managers of each branch to have contact details of senior police officials and local police stations so that security aspects are discussed regularly.

Representatives also put forth the security lapse on their part in each branches and said that the security issues will be taken up with the high officials concerned. Assistant Commissioners Ashokan, Udayakumar, Vivekanandan, Ravindran and inspectors from all the police stations in the city were present.
