Overcast skies forced Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to take the road route to Kodanad in the Nilgiris. According to sources, the helicopter carrying Ms. Jayalalithaa left the Coimbatore Airport around 11.15 a.m. on Friday.

But it returned soon, as the weather in the Nilgiris was bad. Ten minutes later she left by car.

Earlier, Ms. Jayalalithaa arrived around 11 a.m. in the city by a chartered aircraft. Ministers S. Damodaran, N.D. Venkatachalam, Deputy Speaker V. Jayaraman, Mayor S.M. Velusamy, Collector M. Karunagaran, Additional Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran, City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, Inspector General of Police, West Zone, Davidson Devasirvatham, Corporation Commissioner G. Latha, and other officials received the Chief Minister.

Even as the chopper neared the helipad in the Nilgiris, the overcast conditions prevented the pilot from landing the helicopter.

After circling for a while, the pilot decided to return to Coimbatore.

Ms. Jayalalithaa then took the Avinashi Road and Mettupalayam Road to reach the Nilgiris.
