Awards given for good industrial relations

Companies, unions selected based on five criteria

The Tamil Nadu Labour Department on Saturday distributed its Good Industrial Relations Awards for 2008-’14 to 85 entities.

Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel distributed the awards at Shenoy Nagar’s Amma Arangam. Rural Industries Minister P. Benjamin and Labour secretary P. Amudha were present.

Managements and trade unions, which maintain good industrial relations, were selected on the basis of five different criteria; minimum loss of man days and increase in productivity.

The awards were given across five categories, depending on the number of employees. Thirty five unions and 50 establishments were awarded. Unions like those of the TVS in Madurai and Wheels India in Chennai, and establishments like Thirumalai Chemicals and Ramaraju Cotton Mills were given awards.

Ms. Kafeel said that of the 98 MoUs signed at the 2015 Global Investors Meet, 61 were implemented, getting an investment of ₹29,615 crore to the State and providing employment to 76,271 people.
