The Special Court trying the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday deferred recording of the statement of V.K. Sasikala, one of the accused, following the Supreme Court’s September 27 order permitting her to inspect certain unmarked and un-exhibited documents before further recording of statements.
Somaraju, judge of a Special Court for CBI cases, adjourned proceedings till October 8. When the proceedings commenced on Saturday, Sandesh J. Chowta, Assistant to Special Public Prosecutor, presented a copy of the Supreme Court’s order downloaded from the official website. However, the counsel for the accused took objection to it while stating that the Special Court can take further decision only after production of a certified copy of the order. So, the court posted the case for October 8.
In its order, the Supreme Court directed the Special Court to permit Ms. Sasikala to inspect certain unmarked and un-exhibited documents. The order said she should be given 21 days from the date of receipt of the Supreme Court’s order for inspection of documents.

The court also directed the Special Court to allow simultaneous inspection of such documents by V.N. Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi, the other accused in the case. The Supreme Court said that the permission granted to the accused to inspect documents at this stage of trial would not affect any part of the trial conducted so far.
