The Special Court in Bangalore, trying the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Saturday postponed further proceedings to January 20.
Judge John Michael Cunha adjourned the proceedings as the process of shifting the seized valuables and other materials from Chennai to Bangalore is yet to be completed.
Though the court decided to continue the proceedings on January 15, counsel for the accused requested postponement on account of the Pongal festival, and the court accepted their plea.

In its December 12 order, the Special Court directed that the seized valuables and “material objects” be shifted to Bangalore, allowing an application filed by DMK leader K. Anbazhagan, who was earlier permitted to assist the Special Public Prosecutor. The valuables and “marked objects” are now at the Reserve Bank of India’s treasury in Chennai.
In May 2005, the then judge of the Special Court initiated steps for shifting the valuables to Bangalore. But the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings. Though the stay was vacated in 2010, the Special Court did not press ahead with shifting the valuables, though the proceedings continued.
