Police nab four-member gang

They were involved in murders and robberies in Kancheepuram district

It was a scene straight out of a movie as a team of police personnel intercepted a car and nabbed a four-member gang fleeing in it in Arakkonam Town on Thursday.

Police attached to Arakkonam sub-division were assisting a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Chengalpet, Mathivanan to nab the four men, who were involved in murders and robberies in Kancheepuram district, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, personnel attached to Arakkonam sub-division intercepted a car in which the four men were travelling in Arakkonam.

DSP of Arakkonam sub-division P. Kuthalingam, and inspectors of Arakkonam Town K. Nagarajan and Arakkonam Taluk Annadurai were at the spot.

The police stopped the vehicle and secured the four men.

“We secured them at gunpoint since they are capable of attacking as they handle shotguns and country-made bombs,” Mr. Nagarajan said. Police said they secured sickles and knives from the vehicle.

The four men were – Sureshkumar (30), a resident of Kalaignar Karunanithi Street in Chengalpet, Devaraj (30) of Pillaiyar Koil Street, Anumanthapuram in Kancheepuram, Siva (39) of Mariyamman Koil Street in Patraivakkam Colony, Chengalpet and Appu alias Karthi (29) of Chengalpet.

The Arakkonam police said the men were handed over to the Chengalpet police for further inquiry.
