Aqua farm coming up in Kodaikanal

An aqua farm to raise fingerlings and promote fish farming would be established in Kodaikanal at an estimated cost of Rs. 9.75 crore shortly, said Collector T.N. Hariharan.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, he said the government had sanctioned funds for the farm which would promote aquaculture in the district. The Department of Fisheries had earned a revenue of Rs. 9.59 lakh through leasing rural tanks to fishermen.

Special training would be given to fishermen on advanced technologies and fishing nets had been provided to 80 of them at 50 per cent subsidy and identity cards to 2,281 beneficiaries, he added.

Indoor stadium

An ultra modern stadium, now under construction at a cost of Rs. 3.6 crore here, would have infrastructure matching international standards and would be eligible to host national and international tournaments. It would be the second largest indoor stadium in the State, next to the one in Chennai.

Inspecting the work on Thursday, he said 80 per cent of the work was over and the stadium would be completed soon. The government had allotted Rs. 5 lakh for establishing an ultra modern gym and Rs. 80 lakh for renovation of the district stadium.
