Hundreds of anti-Kudankulam nuclear power project agitators on Wednesday took out a rally from near the site to Idinthakarai village, where about 160 people are on an indefinite fast since the last four days, demanding closure of the plant.
A special prayer meeting and a pooja was also held at a village mosque and another area.
Activists with the People’s Movement against Nuclear Energy have been observing the fast since October 9 demanding scrapping of the project.

M Pushparayan, the movement convener, said they plan to intensify their agitation and conduct prayers against it as people have a ‘sentimental attachment’ to villages around Kudankulam and were worried about their safety and environment.
He had said on Tuesday that the agitators have decided to observe an indefinite fast to pressurise the Central and State governments to take an early decision on closing down the project.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had on October 7 announced that an expert group would be set up to allay safety concerns, but on Oct 9 anti-KNPP activists resumed their agitation with a three-day fast to press their demand on scrapping it.

Dr Singh’s assurance had come after a multi-party delegation, including anti-nuclear KNPP activists, met him in Delhi.
