Despite being granted bail by a trial court, an activist protesting against Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project R.S. Mugilan, who had been lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison after being remanded in judicial custody, has refused to give up his indefinite fast and leave Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital premises where he had been admitted for treatment.
A diabetic, Mugilan is one of the protestors who played an active role in the series of agitations against the plant. Consequently, he had been cited as an accused in several cases filed by Kudankulam police.
Mugilan surrendered before a court at Tiruchi on December 23 last and was lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison . He began an indefinite fast against the KKNPP in the jail. He urged the Centre not to go ahead with its plan of constructing more reactors at the site. He also appealed to the State government to withdraw all cases filed against the activists. When his condition worsened, he was shifted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. However, he continued his protest for the fifth day on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the trial court at Valliyoor enlarged Muilan on bail a couple of days ago and the order was forwarded to the Palayamkottai prison. Immediately, the prison authorities informed him about the bail. However, he refused to leave the hospital or give up his indefinite fast.
