The undulated condition of the road leading from Virinjipuram in Anaicut panchayat union to Kavasambattu in K.V. Kuppam panchayat union is an example of the poor quality of the link roads laid in the villages.

The potholes on the road create immense hardship to road-users, especially two-wheeler riders, when they have to make way for four-wheelers coming from the opposite direction.

R. Velmurugan, a farmer from Kavasambattu, said that the road, which was laid only about a year ago, has been damaged owing to the poor quality of work. He alleged that contractors entrust the work to sub-contractors, and the quality of the work suffers because there is no supervision during the laying of the road. He also attributed the poor status of the road to corruption as the contractors compromise on quality to pay commission to the officials.

Farmers of Kavasambattu, who were taking their vegetables to the uzhavar sandhai in Vellore when it was started about 14 year ago, are unable to do so using the road because of its poor condition, Mr. Velmurugan said.

Farmers of Kavasambattu wanted the authorities to take urgent steps to repair the road.

“Contractors entrust the work to sub-contractors, and the quality of the work suffers because there is no supervision”
