All-party protest in support of NLC workers on August 31

Representatives of all political parties will stage a demonstration at all taluk headquarters in the district on August 31 to extend their solidarity with the striking workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). A decision to this effect was taken at an all-party meeting held in Neyveli on Monday.

Former DMK Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam who chaired the meeting said cadres of DMK, DMDK, MDMK, VCK and TVK will stage a major agitation in front of post offices in the taluk headquarters on August 31.

He also urged contract workers owing allegiance to various unions and Engineers and officers in the PSU to take a favourable stand and extend their support to the striking workers. The meeting also urged the State Government to pass a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in support of the striking workers and urge the Centre to resolve the issue immediately. It also wanted the State Government to withdraw the police force deployed in the township.

The meeting called for a bandh in Cuddalore district if authorities failed to resolve the issue before August 31.

Over 12,000 regular employees of NLC have been on an indefinite strike since July 20 seeking wage revision and 24 per cent hike in fitment wages.
