Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin on Thursday sought to downplay the registration of criminal cases against some of his supporters in Madurai based on complaints from loyalists of the party’s south zone organising secretary M.K. Alagiri.
“There is no question of partymen being my loyalists or those of others. All are DMK members and Kalaignar’s loyalists,” he told reporters when asked about the registration of cases by the police against P. Moorthy, party’s Madurai (rural) district secretary, and other partymen on the basis of complaints made by Mr. Alagiri’s supporters.
Asked about the Salem Corporation’s directive to remove the statue of former Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam, Mr. Stalin, who was here to inspect the arrangements for the party’s State conference to be held in the city next month, said his party had moved the court on the issue.

Replying to a query on the continued silence of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam to the DMK’s overtures, Mr. Stalin pointed out that Mr. Karunanidhi had already said that he would be happy if the DMDK joined the alliance. “Let’s wait and see,” he said.
On the removal of some of the hoardings put up in view of the party conference in Tiruchi on the direction of the police, Mr. Stalin said the party was following the law and had applied for permission from the authorities, but wondered whether the ruling partymen, who had put up hoardings in connection with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s birthday, had obtained permission.
