Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi said here on Monday that he was ready for a debate with Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa over the disproportionate assets case.
“I am confident that I can prove her guilt. When the case is heard after the election, people will know who is corrupt,” he said, while campaigning for party candidates from four constituencies in the region: S. Uma Rani (Salem), R. Thamaraiselvan (Dharmapuri), R. Manimaran (Kallakurichi) and S. Gandhiselvan (Namakkal).
Good governance was adding value to the schemes introduced by the previous government. The DMK added egg to the nutritious meal scheme which was introduced by Kamaraj. But the AIADMK was destroying every good work done by the DMK, such as the newly built Secretariat building and library established in connection with the 100 birth anniversary of C.N. Annadurai, he alleged.

The DMK leader also alleged that crime rate was on the rise under the AIADMK regime. Stating that he had the figures from the National Crime Records Bureau reports, he said a total of 3,330 murders were committed in this State, from the time the AIADMK came to power, till March 25, 2014. “These are in addition to 1,223 thefts, 921 incidents of chain-snatching and 916 waylaying and cheating cases”, he noted. Mr. Karunanidhi recalled his association with Veerapandi S. Arumugham who had been Salem district secretary for 40 years. Earlier, he campaigned from his van at Sankagiri and at Magudanchavadi.
