AIADMK front will register anemphatic victory: Shanmugam

Fighting election with ‘two leaves’ symbol would be an added advantage and the AIADMK front would register an emphatic victory in Vellore parliamentary constituency this time, said New Justice Party founder-president A.C. Shanmugam.

The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam announced on Wednesday that the Vellore constituency has been allotted to its alliance partner NJP. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Shanmugam said that in the 2014 elections, fighting under the aegis of National Democratic Alliance, he gave a close fight to the AIADMK’s B. Senguttuvan.

With parties like BJP, PMK, TMC, PT coming together to join hands with the party started by Puratchi Thalaivar, it would be an advantage AIADMK, he said.

To a question, that Muslim parties’ support to DMK front would affect his prospects, Mr. Shanmugam categorically said that AIADMK too has a strong Muslim vote base and hoped that those votes would help him.

Earlier in the day, he toured various parts of the constituency to seek electoral support. Mr. Shanmugam was accompanied by Commercial Taxes Minister, K.C. Veeramani. With one of the founder members of AIADMK, Shanmugam returning to their fold to fight elections with two leaves symbol it will not be a problem for us, Mr. Veeramani. said. We would increase the victory margin this time, he added.
