AIADMK councillor's son among five arrested in history-sheeter's murder

The district police have arrested five persons, including V. Ilanchezhian, son of Rajapalayam municipal councillor, T. Vanaraja, in connection with Tuesday’s murder of a history-sheeter, K. Alagendran (27).

The police identified the other arrested accused as C. Selvaraj (36), M. Muthukumar (26), P. Neerathulingam (23), and A. Sakthivel. The Rajapalayam North police are on the lookout for two more persons.

Mr. Alagendran used to frequently pick up quarrel with Ilanchezhian while visiting the bar attached to a TASMAC retail outlet at Pullukadai, Rajapalayam Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ashokan, said.

Ilanchezhian and six others conspired to murder him.  

In the wee hours of Tuesday, they knocked down Alagendran with a car while he was riding on a motorbike.  Later, the assailants attacked him with a machete killing him on the spot.  The police have recovered the car, a two-wheeler and three machetes.  

This is the second murder reported in the town in the last one week.  P. Meenakshi Sundaram, a ruling party councillor in the municipality was also killed in a similar fashion on May 13.
