Adulterated products seized from jaggery units

In a series of raids conducted in jaggery manufacturing units here, adulterated products to the tune of Rs. 40,000 were seized and destroyed by food safety officials.

The raids were conducted in units at Dharmapuri, Sogathur, Solakottai, and Palacode areas.

Caustic soda, bleaching power, sulphuric acid, maida, milk powder and other raw materials used as adulterants in jaggery production were seized and destroyed..

The owners of the manufacturing units were let-off with a warning. The department has warned that erring units will be sealed, if they were found to indulge in adulteration.
