Functioning of all offices at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was badly affected on Thursday as the administrative staff observed a hunger strike to highlight their demand.
The protesting administrative staff said the retirement benefits of the staff were calculated till 2005 based on the salary they drew on the day of retirement. Moreover, the administrative staff were getting time-bound promotions without any problem.
However, an order promulgated by the Department of Higher Education on September 25, 2013 had seriously affected the service benefits including retirement benefits and time-bound promotions of administrative staff. Hence, the State Government should withdraw the order affecting the welfare of the university administrative staff, the protestors said.
