Actor surrenders in land-grab case in Dindigul

The couple obtained anticipatory bail from the Madurai Bench, which directed them to surrender in the Dindigul court.

Film actor and DMK functionary ‘Vaagai’ Chandrasekar and his wife C. Jagadeeswari surrendered in the judicial magistrate court here on Tuesday in a land-grab case.

They were granted bail. Magistrate M. Mohammad Sulaiman Sait directed Mr. Chandrasekar to report in the District Crime Branch office at 10 a.m. daily until further orders.

P.K. Kousalya, an Erode college professor, filed a petition in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court in August 2012, saying she and her sisters P.K. Sri Vidhya and P.K. Ramya had inherited 2.97 acres in Dindigul from their father through a settlement deed. However, 38 cents was grabbed by an individual, a ‘benami’ of Mr. Chandrasekar.

She appealed to the Bench to direct the Dindigul police to file a case against the actor and 10 others.

On April 12 this year, the court directed the Dindigul DCB police to register a case and decide within seven days whether any cognisable offence had been committed. In June, the DCB police registered cases against Mr. Chandrasekar and his wife; Bageerathan, Sangeetha, Parasu Arasan of Rajambadi in Madurai; Subbammal of Saravanampatti in Coimbatore; Pappammal and Sarvanan of Malayagoundenpatti; Chinnasamy of Pallapatti; Durai Raj of Ammaiyanaickanur; and Murugapandi of Kandhappakottai.

The police have so far arrested Subbammal, Pappammal and document writer Murugapandi.

Three other accused are likely to appear before the court on Wednesday.
