Eminent persons from different walks of life were presented ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award on the occasion of Arunai Achievers’ Day celebrations, organised by Arunai Engineering College here on Friday.

Former Governor of Tamil Nadu Surjit Singh Barnala, who was the chief guest, presented the awards. Recipients include V. Shantha, Chairperson, Adyar Cancer Institute; Nirmal Shekar, Sports Editor, The Hindu /Editor , Sportstar ; M.Y.S. Prasad, Director, Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, ISRO, Sriharikota; N.R. Shetty, Former director, Indian Society for Technical Education; Rajeev B. Bhatnagar, vice-president (Human Resources), L&T Constructions; P. Soundararajan, Managing Director (Helicopter Complex) Hindustan Aeronautics Limited; B. Surendra Mohan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, and J. Ranjeeth Kumar (alumnus of the college), an IAS officer serving now as Joint Managing Director, Gujarat Industrial Corridor Corporation.

Subordinate officers of Mr. Soundararajan and Mr. Mohan received the awards on their behalf while parents of Mr. Ranjeeth Kumar received the award on his behalf.

Students of the college who secured more than 85 per cent marks were refunded 50 per cent of tuition fees and those who secured more than 90 per cent were refunded 100 per cent as scholarship.

Students who got jobs in campus interviews were presented offer letters.

Mr. Barnala said, “Cultivating a flair for research and innovation in students is the need of the hour. It is the spirit of creativity that will lead our nation to greater heights. It is knowledge with wisdom, love with compassion, sincerity coupled with hard work and truthful living that will bring success in life.”
