Sankarankoil voters have answered the challenge thrown [at the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam] by others. They have given a fitting reply, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said on Wednesday.
“I do not have to say anything more,” she told reporters, after presiding over the wedding of seven couples in Vanagaram near here.
Describing the party's victory in the by-election as expected, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that after she became the chief of the unified party in 1989, the voters of Sankarankoil, on every occasion, returned the party's nominee in the elections held between 1991 and 2012. “Good or bad times, the Sankarankoil voters have never let down the AIADMK. They have always stood by us.”

Ms. Jayalalithaa thanked the people of the constituency for their support. Even though it was known that the party would win, what remained was the margin of victory, she added.
