Women equipped with dairy farming skills

Training programme on women empowerment through dairy, fodder and value addition of milk in progress at Sithanatham, Manapparai.

A total of 31 women, all members of six self help groups from Sithanatham area near Manapparai, underwent an week-long training on dairy, fodder and value addition of milk.

The programme was organised by the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) and the Indian Overseas Bank Training Centre here. M. Babu and T. Lurthu Reetha of Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, were the resource persons.

Speaking at the valediction, G. Rangadurai, Director, IOB Rural Employment Training Centre, emphasised on adopting technologies in animal husbandry practices.

A handbook was released by P. Thangaraju, Manager, IOB, Maravanur branch. He urged the SHGs to adopt technologies for scientific dairy farming, fodder for animal food security and additional revenue generation through value addition of milk

He distributed certificates to the women participants.

Mr. Babu, professor and head, Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, TANUVAS, appealed to the women beneficiaries to obtain loan for starting dairy micro enterprise, cultivate perennial green fodder like CO 4 to reduce the production cost of milk, prepare and market value added milk products for additional income.
