School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu, who is also in-charge of Archaeology, launched a website on ‘Industrial Archaeology of Tamil Nadu' here on Thursday.
Though there is increasing awareness about the need to preserve our historical symbols, the effort has to come from each and every citizen as it was a “social responsibility,” he said.
Emphasising the need to involve students in the initiative, Mr. Thennarasu said: “We decided to start heritage clubs in schools so that children know the historical significance of the place they live in and feel the need to preserve it.”

It is also very important to consciously preserve murals in the ancient temples of Tamil Nadu, he said.
“The high-level committee, headed by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister K.R. Periyakaruppan, formed by the government will look in to the issue.”
The website launched (www.indusarchaeo.com) is an initiative of the Indian Science Monitor, along with Triesten Technologies.

“The website is aimed at involving industry in archaeology,” said T.K.V. Rajan, founder-director, Indian Science Monitor.
