Vijay, Suriya, Vikram bat for jallikattu

On a day when protests intensified against the jallikattu ban in the State, joining the bandwagon from the Tamil film industry were top actors Vijay, Suriya and Dhanush.

On Tuesday, Vijay released a video statement voicing his views against PETA and stating that jallikattu was an important part of the identity of Tamilians. “I applaud all the youth who have had no ulterior motive as well as no political affiliations but have continued to protest against the ban on jallikattu,” he said.

Many actors and directors from the film fraternity have been voicing their support for jallikattu over the last few days.

‘United by culture’

‘On Tuesday, actor Suriya released a statement in which he said that he was glad to see youngsters coming together, united by culture, history and identity. “Organisations like PETA which rallied for the ban on jallikattu have lost their battle in the people’s court,” he said. In the flurry of social media support for the protest, actor Dhanush tweeted stating that he was proud of every ‘Tamilian’ who had voiced his protest against the jallikattu ban and said that they would definitely emerge victorious. Music composer and actor G.V. Prakaash participated in protests at Salem.

Actor Vikram too voiced his support to the ongoing protests against the jalikattu Ban and said that he wanted the traditional game to be brought back.

“There is no doubt that these protests will lead to victory,” he said, in a short statement.
