Vice-President to release English translation of Karunanidhi’s literary works

Vice-President Hamid Ansari will release English translation of some of the literary works of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Chennai on May 31.

Bharathiar University here has taken initiative to translate 12 popular literary pieces of Karunanidhi, which would be in 12 volumes and valued at Rs 4,000,Vice-Chancellor, C. Swaminathan told reporters on Saturday. Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily would receive the first copy, he said.

The books included ‘Tholkapia Poonga’ (the Flower Garden of Tolkappiyam), ‘Thenpandi Singam, Payum puli, Pantaraka Vanniyan’ (The leaping Tiger), ‘Ponnar Sankar,’ and ’Parashakti and Manohara,’ he said.

Dr G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Dr. P. Marudanayagam, Dr. R. Ganapathy, Dr. Sujatha Vijayaraghavan, Dr. N. Ramani were among those translated the works, he said.

It was also planned to compile the papers presented at the World Classical Tamil Conference, scheduled here next month, into a volume and preserve in the library, he said.
