The VIT University, Vellore, will be starting a four-year B. Tech mechanical engineering programme with specialisation in automobile engineering from 2010-11.
The university signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune, to facilitate the starting of the programme recently. G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT University, and Shrikant Marathe, Director, ARAI, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions at Pune.
According to a release, the students who join B.Tech mechanical engineering with specialisation in automobile engineering will spend the first three years at VIT University, Vellore, learning the basics of automotive engineering before joining ARAI in the final year for learning latest technologies and hands-on practical training. VIT University is already offering an M.Tech programme in automotive engineering with ARAI, and the programme has a similar concept where the first year of study is at VIT University and the second year at ARAI. The response to the M.Tech. programme prompted VIT and ARAI to extend their cooperation to the B.Tech. programme.
