Union minister inaugurates SBI branch

Banks should come forward to help the students and should not reject the education loans to them, said D. Napoleon, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, on Tuesday.

Addressing the function after inaugurating a new branch of the State Bank of India at Chettikulam in Perambalur district, the Minister said that SBI was the leading bank in the country and serving the people through its 12,802 branches. He pointed out that the people of Chettikulam pleaded to him for opening a branch of a nationalised bank and said that the SBI immediately came forward to open its branch at Chettikulam.

The Minister appealed to the SBI to open two more branches in Perambalur district. He appealed to the people to deposit their money in the bank by opening new savings account and pointed out that banks were the best place to keep the savings. He urged the banks to provide more loans to farmers and also to new entrepreneurs for starting industries which would pave way for rural development.

Collector M. Vijayakumar who presided over the function said that by opening the branch of the SBI the economy of Chettikulam would improve further and it would lead to people developing a savings habit in the village.

A. Varatharajan, Regional Manager, SBI, Tiruchi, explained in detail the growth of the SBI and its services to all sections of the society. S. Narasimhan, Assistant General Manager, SBI, Tiruchi, Rajkumar, MLA, Kodiyarasi Duraisamy, District panchayat chairperson, Sasikumar, panchayat president and others spoke.
