Two senior citizens held

A 70-year-old man was arrested on charge of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl at Kadayampatti here.

P. Arumugam of Danishpet Railway Gate area was a tapioca trader. On Monday, when a nine-year-old girl walked past his shop on her way to school, he lured her with chocolates, took her to his house and raped her.

The girl later informed her parents who lodged a complaint with All Women Police Station in Omalur police. However, the police failed to initiate action.

Her parents later complained to Superintendent of Police P. Rajan on Tuesday following which the Thevattipatti police registered a case under Sections 7 and 8 of POCSO Act and arrested Arumugam.

He was produced at the court and lodged in the Central Prison.

A medical test was conducted on the girlat Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.

Another case

In another case, a 60-year-old driver of a private school sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl at Attur here on Tuesday.

V. Sadasivam used to park the school van on a vacant piece of land near the girl’s house. As it was a holiday on Tuesday, the girl was playing outside her house. Sadasivam took her in the van and sexually assaulted her.

The girl returned home and informed her father. Villagers beat up Sadasivam and handed him over to the Malliakarai police. He was admitted to the Government Hospital in Attur.

The police registered a case under Sections 3 (b) and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Sadasivam would be arrested after being discharged from the hospital, the police said. The girl is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
