Textbook of surgical oncology released

A textbook of surgical oncology, dealing with the fundamental principles, evidence-based approaches and emergent technologies was released by Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals, on Wednesday.

The book has been edited and compiled by David Bartlett, Pragatheeshwar Thirunavukarasu and Mathew Neal, division of Surgical Oncology, University of Pittsburgh, U.S. The first copy was received by T.R. Pachamuthu, Chancellor, SRM University.

The book has contributions by 40 authors from the U.S., including experts in their respective fields. It has a Level of Evidence table at the end of each chapter listing the strength of scientific evidence available for each procedure or treatment. There is also a chapter on robotic surgery.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Reddy said that the book could lead and steer much more research in understanding cancer and developing innovative and futuristic therapies. Apollo Hospitals had stepped up efforts for the prevention of cancer, early detection and wass at the forefront in developing innovative protocols to treat cancer.” Dr. Pragatheeshwar, who pioneered this project, said: “This book has been specially crafted to educate and update oncologists in India on the latest evidence, technologies and the future of cancer surgery.” The book has been published by Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers worldwide. It comes with an encrypted password for a website that hosts all the information, including the Level of Evidence tables in the textbook. Video lectures by international experts will also be available on the website.
