Tamil Conference's logo unveiled

The image of saint-poet Thiruvalluvar’s statue [in Kanyakumari], depicted as being lapped by waves of the tsunami, and encircled by seven icons of the Indus Valley Civilisation forms part of the logo of the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore in June 2010.

The logo emphasises the ideal of the mankind that it should always be free of narrow walls of race, creed and casteism found emblazoned in a palm leaf manuscript at the bottom of the statue. This concept (“pirapokkum illa uyirukkum”) has been declared the motto of the meet.

The figures of the Indus Valley Civilisation’s icons, found in the logo, symbolise the Dravidian civilisation, which is regarded as one of the four ancient civilisations, according to an official release.

The number of icons stresses the importance of ‘seven’ to the lives of Tamils.

On Friday, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi unveiled the logo of the Conference at the Secretariat in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Information Minister Parithi Ellamvazhuthi, scholars V.C. Kulandaiswamy and Iravatham Mahadevan, Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi and Special Officer for the conference K. Allaudin.
