In a bid to improve the educational standards in the state, the Tamil Nadu government, on the eve of Teachers day, has announced the upgrading of more than 1,400 schools two-teacher schools to three-teacher schools.
As per the existing norms, only two teachers were employed in primary and middle-level schools that had a pupil strength of 100, which resulted in uneven teacher-student ratio, even 1:50 in some cases, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said in a release here today.
“The said measure is being effected, considering the difficulties in the implementation of activity-based learning and requests from teachers’ associations. Henceforth, schools with 70 students will have three teachers instead of the present two, covering more than 1,400 schools in the state,” he said. This will ensure that there is a better delivery system between the teachers and the students, he added.
