TN committed to goals set by Jayalalithaa: OPS

Tamil Nadu has planned an investment of Rs. 15 lakh crore to reach its goals set by Jayalalithaa under Vision Tamil Nadu 2023blueprint, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said.

Speaking at the India Today conclave here on Monday, Mr. Panneerselvam said, “The goal is to ensure that Tamil Nadu’s per capita income reaches that of upper middle income countries by 2023.”

The Chief Minister dedicated a large part of his speech to Jayalalithaa and her vision for Tamil Nadu, evident in nearly every sentence of his speech.

“In 1991, Tamil Nadu’s per capita income was still below the national average. Today, it is nearly 75 per cent above the average,” he said.

‘Power surplus’

Tamil Nadu “is a haven of peace”. Pointing out that the State had faced a huge power deficit in 2011, he said it had become a power surplus State by 2015.

“Major investments have also been made in road, urban development, transport and related sectors. The people of this State must have access to infrastructure and services comparable to the best available anywhere in the world,” he said, adding that the State would become a knowledge hub for innovation, and the most attractive investment destination in India, and one of the three most attractive in Asia.

He added that 100 out of 217 projects identified under the Vision 2023 blueprint had already commenced.
