Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said on Thursday that he will oppose Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict Nalini Sriharan arguing her own case in court.

“She is a convict. She does not have the rights of a citizen,” Dr.Swamy told presspersons here. Answering a question, Dr.Swamy said Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi had clarified his stand on the Nalini release issue with the statement that the DMK government would not unilaterally announce its decision on issues that required consultations at the national level. He reiterated that only her death sentence had been commuted to life imprisonment and this had to be borne in mind. Dr.Swamy said that he was convening a meeting in Chennai on electronic voting machines on February 13. Experts from abroad would participate in the conference “in light of reports from several countries about the tamperability and lack of transparency in polling of votes” in EVMs.
