Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday urged District Collectors to expeditiously carry out removal of encroachment from lands belonging to the Wakf Board.
Speedy completion of survey of the extent of lands of the Board, immediate steps for the retrieval of the Board’s properties after getting legal cases resolved and the improvement of revenue of the Wakfs by raising the present value of rent on the properties to the market value were among other directions of the Deputy Chief Minister.
Officials of the Board in districts should be proactive in enrolment of members of the welfare board for Ulemas and employees. Appropriate action could be initiated for providing maintenance to Muslim women who got divorced through free legal service. The State government would urge the Centre for increasing the allocation for subsidy given to Haj pilgrims.

He called for increasing the number of self-help groups formed for minorities through the Minorities Economic Development Corporation. This could be done through the Women Development Corporation.
Mr. Stalin gave the directions while reviewing the status of welfare schemes being implemented through the Wakf Board, State Hajj Committee, Minorities Economic Development Corporation and Minorities Commission.
K. Deenabandu, Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister, K. Allaudin, Commissioner of Land Reforms and Executive Officer of the Hajj Committee and T.N. Ramanathan, Secretary of the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare department, were among those who attended the meeting.
