Security has been tightened with the deployment of police personnel across the district in view of the pronouncement of Ayodhya verdict by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday (September 30).
Five-tier security has been arranged in the district to prevent any untoward incident. Speaking to ‘The Hindu' on Wednesday, K. P. Shanmuga Rajeswaran, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, said that six companies of police personnel in Kanyakumari district, two companies in Tirunelveli district and similarly two more companies for Tuticorin district would be deployed at vital installations and in various parts of the districts.
Mobile patrolling would also be intensified on roads to monitor suspicious movements of anti-social elements.

Besides, police pickets would be put up in crowded places to ensure public safety. The movement of vehicles would also be monitored and checked with the installation of check posts in various localities. Stringent action would be initiated immediately on those who violate restrictions imposed by the security personnel. Security had also been beefed up at railway stations. Rail patrolling would also be carried out to safeguard passenger safety. Surveillance would be increased with additional security mechanisms at religious sites including mosques and temples. Additional strength of police in the vicinity of educational institutions would also be posted, Mr. Shanmuga Rajeswaran added.
Security had been stepped up at Vahaikulam Airport in Tuticorin. Reliable sources from the airport added that as per instructions of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, security had been tightened round-the-clock.
