Security beefed up for Rahul in Thanjavur

Security has been beefed up in Thanjavur for the visit of Rahul Gandhi M.P. and All India General Secretary of the Congress party on Wednesday.

The venue of the function, Kandha Saras Marriage Hall on Medical College Road, has come under the control of Special Protection Group (SPG) headed by P.P. Singh, Additional Inspector General of police. SPG will provide the first layer of security at the marriage hall. Central intelligence and state intelligence officials will also be on duty at the venue. Armed reserve police personnel, local police and the Tamil Nadu Special Police have also been deputed for security.

Police conducted an Advance Security Liaison meeting on Tuesday. According to A.K. Senthil Velan, Superintendent of Police, 600 to 700 police personnel will be on duty on Wednesday. “The entire programme is for two hours and later [Mr.] Gandhi will fly to Villupuram", the SP said.

In his two hour stay in the town, Mr. Gandhi will interact with party workers and young farmers, who have already been identified and issued identity cards.
