Samba and Thaladi crops have been raised in 1,44,817 hectares in Tiruvarur district, said Collector M.Chandrasekaran, here on Saturday. Presiding over the farmers' grievances day meeting, the Collector said of this, Rajarajan 1000 method has been applied in 65,440 hectares.
The Collector said Kuruvai harvest has been completed on 1,1957 hectares and a maximum yield of 9.5 tonnes per hectare has been realised in some areas. The district has received 1252.45 mm of rainfall against the total annual rainfall of 1,230 mm. There is an adequate stock of fertilisers in the district. It has been planned to disburse Rs. 510 crore of crop loans by banks of which Rs. 85 crore would be given by co-operative banks, he said.
He appealed to the farmers to pay crop insurance premium to insure their crops under the National Crop Insurance Scheme. The last date for payment of premium for farmers who had not taken loans is December 15 and for those who had taken December 31. Farmers complained that co-operative banks are not receiving the premium from farmers who had not taken loans in some places.
