Discharge of water from the Mettur Dam for the ongoing farm season in the Cauvery delta region was stepped down on Sunday, indicating that the shutters of the Stanley Reservoir will be closed for the current season shortly.
About 5,000 cusecs was released for a week till Saturday. It was reduced to 3,000 cusecs on Saturday and further brought down to 500 cusecs on Sunday.
The level in the dam stood at 71.35 feet on Monday evening against its full level of 120 feet. The storage level was 33.871 tmc against its full capacity of 93.470 tmc. The inflow into the dam was 176 cusecs. The PWD in the last couple of weeks has been reducing the release of water from the dam in a phased manner with the crop season nearing completion in the delta region.

“The water release has been brought down to bare minimum as the farm season has almost come to an end and there is no need for water further in delta districts,” PWD sources told
Water release from the dam began on August 9 last year after a delay of almost about two months for launching farm activities on 12 lakh acres in the Cauvery delta districts.
