TNCC president K.V. Thangkabalu on Monday described as “fake,” pre-poll surveys predicting victory for the AIADMK alliance.
He claimed that they had been published to divert the attention of people from the achievements of the DMK government and the Congress-led UPA government. “These are motivated surveys.”
He was speaking to reporters in connection with the visit of AICC president Sonia Gandhi to Tamil Nadu on March 5.

Mr. Thangkabalu said that even in 2009 these poll surveys favoured the AIADMK alliance, but the election results proved them wrong.
“These surveys have not taken into consideration the welfare schemes being implemented by both the DMK government and the Congress-led UPA at the Centre. This has been openly admitted by those who conducted the survey.”
Mr. Thangkabalu said that Ms. Gandhi's campaign would have great impact and the DMK-Congress combine would win over 200 seats in Tamil Nadu.

She will arrive in Chennai at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and address a meeting in Puducherry before coming back to Chennai at 4 p.m. Leaders of the alliance parties, including Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, PMK leader S. Ramadoss and VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, will attend the meeting.
AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address election meetings in Erode, Karur and Vilathikulam on April 7.
Asked whether Mr. Gandhi would meet Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Mr. Thangkabalu said that Chennai did not figure in his tour schedule. “Mr. Gandhi has great respect for Mr. Karunanidhi and other senior leaders of the country.” He said that the filing of a case against Union Minister M.K. Alagiri was unacceptable.
